The late Shang capital Yin (Yinxu) near modern Anyang became the central setting for elite ritual display, where bronze vessel assemblages and related practices (including divination) are documented archaeologically and through inscriptions.
Shang ritual vessels were typically cast using sectional (piece-)molds rather than lost-wax casting, enabling sharp relief decoration and large-scale production by assembling mold sections around a core and pouring molten bronze into the cavity.
