The Pyramid of the Magician (El Adivino) was built in multiple superimposed phases over centuries; scholarship commonly places the beginning of construction in the 6th century CE, with later major additions continuing into the Terminal Classic.
Archaeological investigations place Uxmal’s principal building span broadly in the 8th–10th centuries CE, when the community expanded from a smaller settlement into a regional political and administrative center; many ceremonial buildings at the site date within this era.

The ruler Chan Chak Kʼakʼnal Ajaw ("Lord Chac"), active around the turn of the 10th century, is linked by inscriptions and architectural history to the construction/expansion of some of Uxmal’s best-known monuments, including the Nunnery Quadrangle and Governor’s Palace complex.
An inscription records the dedication of Uxmal’s major ballcourt in 901 CE, during the reign of Chan Chak Kʼakʼnal Ajaw—important because dated texts are comparatively rare in northern Maya cities and help anchor Uxmal’s building chronology.
Epigraphic and radiocarbon evidence dates rapid remodeling of the Nunnery Quadrangle: the East Building is dated 906-10-02, the South Building 906-04-23, and a throne at the North Building stairway 909-01-20—demonstrating a concentrated burst of elite construction.
