The Greek edicts from Kandahar (often dated around 258 BCE) demonstrate a durable Greek-speaking community under Mauryan authority and illustrate the long-term cultural-administrative consequences of Mauryan control in former Seleucid regions.

Under Chandragupta’s successor Bindusara, relations with the Seleucid court continue: Deimachus is recorded as ambassador of Antiochus I at the Mauryan court, reflecting ongoing interstate contact after the treaty.
At the Battle of Ipsus (301 BCE), Seleucus’ large elephant corps—described by Britannica as obtained via a treaty with India—helps block enemy cavalry and contributes to the defeat and death of Antigonus I.
Seleucus dispatches (or maintains) diplomatic representation at Chandragupta’s court; Megasthenes’ residence and his Indica (surviving in fragments) become a key classical source on Mauryan governance and society.
A peace agreement (commonly dated 303 BCE) ends the war: Seleucus relinquishes control of eastern territories west/northwest of the Indus to Chandragupta, stabilizing the Seleucid eastern frontier.
Classical accounts report that Chandragupta provided Seleucus with 500 war elephants as part of the settlement—an exchange that strengthened Seleucus’ position in subsequent conflicts among Alexander’s successors.
Greco-Roman sources also describe an intermarriage (a dynastic alliance) linked to the treaty, though details are uncertain and no Indian textual record preserves the arrangement.
After consolidating power in Babylon and proclaiming kingship, Seleucus I campaigns eastward to reassert control over Alexander’s former territories near the Indus, setting up conflict with the expanding Mauryan Empire.
Seleucus I crosses into the Indus frontier and clashes with Chandragupta’s forces in a brief war (often dated 305–303 BCE). The fighting led directly to a negotiated settlement rather than prolonged occupation.
Chandragupta Maurya overthrows the Nanda regime in Magadha and begins building the Mauryan state, creating the political base that soon confronted Seleucid claims in the northwest.
