Early occupation at Madjedbebe begins
Labels: Madjedbebe, Alligator RiversArchaeological excavations at the Madjedbebe rock shelter (in the Alligator Rivers region, adjacent to Kakadu) indicate human occupation beginning around 65,000 years ago, based on optically stimulated luminescence dating and associated stratigraphic analyses. This establishes deep-time Aboriginal presence in the wider Kakadu/Arnhem Land landscape.
