In 1979, economist and demographer Jean Fourastié popularized the label “Les Trente Glorieuses” to describe France’s postwar economic transformation, commonly framed as 1945–1975 (or, in his subtitle, 1946–1975). Naming the period helped fix it in public debate as a distinct era of growth and rising living standards. Later historians have debated how uniform those decades really were, but the term remains influential.
