Alfonso VI’s forces take Toledo
Labels: Alfonso VI, Toledo, Le n-CastileIn May 1085, King Alfonso VI of León-Castile took Toledo, a major former Visigothic and Islamic center on the Tagus River. Holding Toledo gave León-Castile a strong base for further moves south and made control of the Tagus basin a central strategic goal. This conquest also set the stage for organized repoblación (repopulation), meaning planned settlement and rebuilding to secure newly held frontier land.
