Ibn Saud begins the Ikhwān hijrah settlements
Labels: Ikhw n, Ibn Saud, Hijrah settlementsIn 1912, Abdulaziz Ibn Saud began organizing the Ikhwān (a religious-military brotherhood) and settling nomadic Bedouin in colonies called hijrah settlements. The goal was to weaken old tribal feuds and loyalties and replace them with a more centralized, disciplined force tied to the emerging Saudi state. These settlements were an early tool for integrating tribal regions through sedentarization (encouraging permanent settlement).
