Republic reorganizes control of waqfs

On 3 March 1924, Law No. 429 abolished the Ministry of Sharia and the Foundations and created the General Directorate of Foundations (Vakıflar Genel Müdürlüğü, VGM) to oversee waqfs (vakıfs). This set the institutional basis for later state management, restructuring, and disputes over vakıf property.
