Norse activity at L’Anse aux Meadows
Labels: L Anse, NorseNorse sailors reached the northern tip of Newfoundland and built a small base at what is now L’Anse aux Meadows. Archaeological dating shows Norse activity there in 1021, proving Europeans crossed the Atlantic to North America long before later voyages from England, Portugal, and France. The site was used briefly and then abandoned, leaving no lasting colony in the region.
