Castilian War expands Spanish–Moro conflict
Labels: Castilian War, Brunei, SuluSpain’s 1578 campaign against Brunei and its allies (including Sulu and Maguindanao) widened conflict between Spanish authorities in Manila and Muslim polities in the southern Philippines. Although Spain briefly captured Brunei’s capital area, the larger struggle ended without lasting Spanish control in Borneo. This early clash helped set the pattern of repeated Spanish expeditions and sustained Moro resistance.
