Barcelona Pavilion opens at 1929 exposition
Labels: Barcelona Pavilion, Ludwig MiesGermany’s pavilion for the 1929 Barcelona International Exposition, designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe with Lilly Reich, presented a new kind of fair architecture: open plan, thin roof planes, and luxurious modern materials such as glass, steel, and polished stone. Its abstract, non-historical look became a widely cited model for the emerging International Style approach to exhibition buildings. Although built as a temporary structure, its influence far outlasted the fair.
