Museum-documented Wari tunics illustrate the intensive tapestry technique (dense wefts covering warps) and the use of both coastal cotton and highland camelid fiber—material choices that reflect broad Wari access to resources and craft specialization.
Wari state influence is strongly visible in tapestry-woven tunics: standardized formats and bold geometric abstraction suggest organized production and their role as high-prestige garments used to signal authority within Wari political networks.
Around 1000 CE, the Middle Horizon’s large-scale political integration waned as Wari influence diminished, setting conditions for new regional configurations. In material culture, the end of Wari dominance marks a transition in elite dress and ornament traditions.
