Zhao adopts riding dress, influencing later robes
Labels: King Wuling, ZhaoIn 307 BCE, King Wuling of Zhao ordered his court and army to adopt "Hu-style" riding clothes (including trousers and boots) to support cavalry warfare. This famous reform showed that clothing policy could be used to change military practice and court norms. Later dynasties, including the Han, inherited a world where dress could be redesigned for state goals, not just tradition.
