Alice Guy directs early narrative film at Gaumont
Labels: Alice Guy, GaumontIn 1896, Alice Guy (later Alice Guy-Blaché) directed La Fée aux Choux for the Gaumont company in France. The film is widely cited as the first film directed by a woman, and it reflects the shift from short “actuality” scenes toward staged story films. This early success helped place Guy in a leadership role in production at Gaumont.
