Boom success reshapes publishing and expectations
Labels: Latin American, PublishersBy the late 1960s, the Latin American “Boom” had drawn major international attention to Spanish-language fiction. That success created new opportunities for writers, but it also encouraged publishers and critics to expect certain styles—especially ambitious, experimental novels often linked (fairly or not) to “magical realism.” Later “post-Boom” writing developed partly in response to those expectations, often turning toward irony, popular culture, and new narrative voices.
