Agbekor emerges as Ewe war-dance suite
Labels: Ewe communities, AgbekorIn the 1800s, Ewe communities in what is now southeastern Ghana and southern Togo maintained agbekor (also linked with names like atsiagbekor/atamga) as a warrior dance-drumming tradition. It combined drumming, singing, and choreographed movement to prepare for conflict and to remember collective struggles. Over time, it also became a way to preserve community history through song texts and embodied gestures.
