Merton publishes rational option pricing theory
Labels: Robert C, Rational optionIn 1973, Robert C. Merton published “Theory of Rational Option Pricing,” which developed option valuation using no-arbitrage reasoning (prices should not allow riskless profit). The paper extended and generalized ideas closely related to Black–Scholes, including handling dividends and contract features. Together, these works strengthened the theoretical basis for practical options valuation.
