Binance Futures launched bitcoin USDT-margined perpetual contracts, expanding access to high-leverage, always-on crypto derivatives. USDT-margined products made it easier for many traders to manage collateral in a stablecoin rather than in bitcoin itself. This supported rapid growth in offshore derivatives volumes and contributed to around-the-clock global liquidity.
Bakkt began trading physically deliverable bitcoin futures, meaning settlement could involve delivery of bitcoin rather than only cash. This structure aimed to better connect derivatives trading with real holdings and custody processes. The launch added another major U.S.-regulated path for institutions to hedge or gain exposure to bitcoin price movements.
CME introduced options on its bitcoin futures, giving market participants another tool to manage risk. Options provide the right, but not the obligation, to buy or sell at a set price, which can help traders hedge price swings with defined downside. The action highlighted regulators’ continued focus on whether underlying spot markets and related pricing mechanisms are resistant to manipulation.
