Potosí silver boom begins in the Andes
Labels: Potos, Cerro RicoSilver ore was found at Cerro Rico, and a fast-growing mining settlement emerged at Potosí (in today’s Bolivia). This discovery became one of the largest new sources of silver in the early modern world and helped push silver into long-distance trade networks. It also set up the labor and transport systems that later moved American silver toward Europe and Asia.
