In July 2014, Lyft finalized an agreement with New York State officials to operate in New York City under a licensed model. In August 2014, Lyft introduced Lyft Line in San Francisco, offering riders the option to share a trip with other passengers headed in a similar direction. In May 2017, Lyft and Waymo (Alphabet’s self-driving unit) confirmed a partnership to work on bringing autonomous vehicle technology into ride-hailing. In September 2017, Ford announced a partnership with Lyft to connect vehicles—first human-driven, and later self-driving—to Lyft’s network for testing and future deployment.
