Domesday Survey records manors and farming resources
Labels: Domesday Book, William I, ManorWilliam I ordered a kingdom-wide land survey, completed in 1086, to record who held land and what it produced. Domesday entries commonly list manors, plough teams, mills, and peasant categories, providing an early snapshot of how manorial agriculture was organized after the Norman Conquest. This record helps historians see how lords’ demesne land and tenants’ holdings underpinned rural production and dues.
