Domesday survey records manors and lordship
Labels: Domesday Book, William I, ManorIn 1086, William I’s government compiled the Domesday Book, a kingdom-wide survey that listed manors, their resources, and who held them. This helped the Crown understand landholding and revenues after the Norman Conquest. The survey also shows how deeply local life was organized around manors—settings where manorial courts would regulate landholding and everyday obligations.
