Ardashir I founds the Sasanian Empire
Labels: Ardashir I, Sasanian Empire, MesopotamiaIn 224 CE, Ardashir I defeated the last Arsacid (Parthian) king and established the Sasanian Empire with its power center in Mesopotamia and Iran. This created a strong state positioned between the Roman-Byzantine world in the west and Central Asia in the east. Sasanian control of key passes and river crossings helped shape who could move goods and armies along major Silk Road corridors.
