Apidima 1 dated to ~210 ka, raising stakes
Labels: Apidima Cave, Homo sapiensA 2019 reanalysis of fossils from Apidima Cave (Greece) reported that one specimen (Apidima 1) dates to about 210,000 years ago and was identified as Homo sapiens. While outside Arabia, this finding added pressure to older, simpler dispersal timelines by suggesting very early excursions into Eurasia. It also reinforced the idea that early modern human movements could be widespread but not always permanent.
