Modern humans appear in Europe’s southeast
Labels: Bacho Kiro, Homo sapiens, BulgariaFossils and artifacts from Bacho Kiro Cave in Bulgaria provide some of the earliest direct evidence for Homo sapiens in Europe, dating to roughly 46,000–44,000 years ago. These finds show that small groups entered Europe while Neanderthals were still widespread, setting up a long period of overlap and potential interaction.
