Early Aegean seafaring for Melos obsidian
Labels: Melos obsidian, Franchthi CaveObsidian (volcanic glass) from the island of Melos appears at Franchthi Cave on the Greek mainland by about 13,000 BCE. This is strong evidence that people were already making sea crossings and managing repeated maritime exchange routes long before farming reached the Aegean. These seafaring skills later made permanent island settlement more feasible.
