Urdaneta finds the Pacific return route
Labels: Andr s, tornaviaje, Pacific routeIn 1565, the navigator Andrés de Urdaneta charted the tornaviaje, a return route from the Philippines to New Spain (Mexico) using northern winds and currents. This solved the main barrier to regular two-way crossings of the Pacific. It made a repeating Manila–Acapulco shipping circuit practical and profitable.
