Qing establishes the Lifan Yuan
Labels: Lifan Yuan, Inner AsiaThe Qing court created the Lifan Yuan (Court of Colonial Affairs) to manage relations and administration for Inner Asian borderlands, especially Mongol and Tibetan areas. This institution became a key tool for governing frontier peoples through officials, permits, and oversight rather than treating these regions exactly like China proper. It set an early administrative foundation for later frontier garrisons and settlement policies.
