Tobolsk founded at Tobol–Irtysh confluence
Labels: Tobolsk, Tobol River, Irtysh RiverIn 1587, Russian forces founded Tobolsk near the meeting point of the Tobol and Irtysh rivers. The location gave access to major river routes that linked the Urals to the interior of Siberia. This made Tobolsk a practical base for administration, trade, and further expansion eastward.
