Khabarov departs Yakutsk for the Amur
Labels: Yerofey Khabarov, Yakutsk, Amur RouteIn spring 1649, Yerofey (Erofey) Khabarov set out from Yakutsk at his own expense to find a workable route into the Amur River basin. The earlier route used by explorer Vassili Poyarkov had been so difficult that it limited follow-up settlement and raiding. Khabarov’s journey mattered because it aimed to turn reconnaissance into a repeatable supply and travel corridor for Cossack forces.
