The Circum‑Baikal section was inaugurated, marking a major engineering milestone on the overall project. Train traffic began operating on the Circum‑Baikal route, helping integrate the line on both sides of Lake Baikal into one working system. World War I disrupted supply chains and increased pressure on budgets and labor, even as strategic needs kept railway construction important. A major rail bridge across the Amur River near Khabarovsk was completed and inaugurated, enabling year‑round crossing without ferries or ice routes. With the Amur Railway finished, the Trans‑Siberian system could operate end‑to‑end on a route entirely within Russia.
