Labels: Kaiser Shipyards, Richmond CAIn late 1940 and 1941, Henry J. Kaiser’s Richmond shipyard complex began building out facilities and laying keels for cargo ships, with rapid expansion during the prewar mobilization. The Richmond yards became one of the largest shipbuilding operations in the country, helping set the pace for mass-production methods in ship construction.
