Parry sails with Ross on 1818 Arctic expedition
Labels: William Edward, John Ross, Baffin BayIn 1818, William Edward Parry served under Captain John Ross on a British Admiralty voyage to explore Baffin Bay and look for an entrance to the Northwest Passage. Ross turned back after concluding that Lancaster Sound was blocked, but Parry was not convinced by that judgment. This disagreement helped set up Parry’s later command of a new expedition focused on pushing west through Lancaster Sound.
